What is the difference between Acelepryn and Grub B Gon or grubTERMINATOR?

Acelepryn is registered with Health Canada for use on turf as a larvicide targeting European Chafer and Japanese beetle grubs, among other insect pests. The active ingredient, chlorantraniliprole, is a synthetic compound that affects the ryanodine receptors in insect muscle fibers, leading to their demise. This larvicide specifically targets root-eating grubs and is designed to be safe for humans, pets, mammals, birds, bees, butterflies, and other wildlife.

Based on our experience, Acelepryn has proven to be highly effective in mitigating lawn damage when applied early in the grub life cycle.

Grub B Gon (retail grade) and grubTERMINATOR (commercial grade) are both biological insecticides containing the active ingredient Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies galleriae (Btg) strain SDS-502. These products also target root-eating grubs while remaining harmless to humans, pets, mammals, birds, bees, butterflies, and other animals.

In our past experience, we have observed that grubTERMINATOR tends to be less effective compared to Acelepryn. It is important to note that Btg products fall under Group 11 insecticides, which can lead to pest resistance if used repeatedly at the same site or in neighboring lawns. Given the widespread homeowner use of Grub B Gon purchased from retail stores, we believe this may contribute to the diminished effectiveness of these Btg products.
